Prime Location Advantage

Finding us couldn’t be easier – we sit right at I-66’s Mile Marker 13, making your journey here part of the adventure, not a hassle. Washington folks reach us in just 90 minutes, while Baltimore visitors enjoy a short two-hour drive through Virginia’s rolling countryside.

Our spot near Front Royal puts you:

  • A quick 70-mile jaunt from DC’s busy streets
  • Just 90 miles from Baltimore’s harbor
  • Right beside I-66 for stress-free travel
  • Within reach of 6.3 million city dwellers seeking fresh air
  • Close to local dining and shopping options

What truly sets our location apart? We border Shenandoah National Park’s north entrance, placing you steps from trails that attract nature lovers year-round. Unlike other outfitters, we exclusively offer water access to both river forks, opening up miles of kayaking, canoeing, and tubing possibilities you won’t find elsewhere.

When you’re here, you’re perfectly positioned between civilized comforts and untamed beauty. This sweet spot means spending more hours splashing in clear waters and fewer hours fighting traffic, exactly what weekends away should be about.

Who You’ll Meet Here

Rivers bring people together. Walk our shoreline on any summer day and you’ll notice families teaching kids to paddle, office teams laughing through team-building floats, young couples pitching tents, and solo hikers pausing to watch herons fish.

Our visitors include:

  • Families with school-age children seeking safer water play
  • Corporate groups escaping screen time together
  • Young professionals camping affordably
  • Nature photographers capturing sunrise river mist
  • Road-trippers adding us to their Skyline Drive adventures

We’ve watched friendships form between strangers who shared our campfire circles. The river doesn’t care about job titles or addresses – it welcomes everyone equally, creating that rare space where authentic connections happen naturally.

River Life Year-Round

Rivers never sleep. They simply change their personality with the seasons, offering fresh experiences across the calendar. Summer clearly brings peak splashing fun, with tubing season hitting its stride when temperatures climb into the 80s.

But locals know our secret seasons:

  • Autumn brings fiery hillsides reflecting in calm waters
  • Spring awakens with birdsong along peaceful banks
  • Winter rewards brave souls with misty mornings and empty trails
  • Each month reveals something new about river ecosystems

We keep select campsites heated through winter, letting you experience that rare stillness when most visitors have retreated indoors. Watching snow dust the riverbanks from your warm campsite creates memories unlike any summer splash fest.

River Stewardship

We’ll never forget our roots – this business grew from our founder’s work protecting these waters. That commitment shows in everything from our solar-powered welcome center to our plastic-free rental policies.

Our river stewardship includes:

  • Regular water testing ensuring safe recreation
  • Equipment cleaned with earth-friendly products
  • Energy systems reducing our footprint
  • Financial support for local conservation efforts
  • Teaching visitors gentle-impact wilderness skills

When you paddle with us, you become part of this river’s story and its future. We believe experiencing natural beauty creates its own advocates – people protect what they love.

About Front Royal River Adventures

Founded in 2023, Front Royal River Adventures is Jeff Kelble’s second river business since leaving his post as Shenandoah Riverkeeper and President of Potomac Riverkeeper Network.

Located in Front Royal Virginia, we have 12 acres with 1/4 mile of gorgeous riverfront at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Shenandoah. Formally known as Riverton Junction, our campus is literally two minutes off Interstate 66 — it’s the nearest outfitter to Washington DC, and the Northern Virginia area (NOVA, DMV).
