Our
Philosophy

Help friends and families have fun together outdoors. Anticipate needs. Eliminate frustrations. Be affordable. Support the community. Here’s how we do it

Why Front Royal River Adventures

  • By coming to Front Royal River Adventures, you’re simultaneously having an old school river experience while supporting river conservation and the local veterans at VFW Chapter 1860.
  • There are quite a few good outfitters on the river, and they are our friends, but here are a handful of reasons to let us take you out on the river:
  • Closest inner-tubing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, camping, stand up paddleboarding provider to the Washington DC Metro area, aka, the DMV.
  • Support River Conservation. We’ve committed to giving $1 per customer to Shenandoah River keeper, to help this organization protect our beautiful resource.
  • Support the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Chapter 1860. FRRA will donate $1 per customer back to the VFW.
  • Part of the Front Royal Community. We maintain our grounds and donate the use of our facilities to the Front Royal Midget Football League, little league T-ball, and a local Yoga instructor who hosts soothing yoga classes on site. We are also working with the town to develop a RiverFest style event, pumpkin patch, free movie nights and other activities/events that the nature of the property makes ideal for hosting.

Our Story

Founded in 2023, Front Royal River Adventures is Jeff Kelble’s second river business since leaving his post as Shenandoah Riverkeeper and President of Potomac Riverkeeper Network.

Jeff has spent his life and career outdoors and has noticed that people have less time, less equipment, and a little less understanding of how to take advantage of our river’s beauty and healing qualities. Both FRRA and its sister guide service Ashby Gap Adventures are designed to meet this new reality head-on. We’ve assembled an array of fun river activities, and are working on adding land-based activities, which will advantage of our riverfront views, large, manicured field, pavilion, bath house and park-like setting.

Our
Campus
Location
and
History

Located in Front Royal Virginia, we have 12 acres with 1/4 mile of gorgeous riverfront at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Shenandoah. Formally known as Riverton Junction, our campus is literally two minutes off route 66—it’s the nearest outfitter to Washington DC, and the northern Virginia area. We purchased our property from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Chapter 1860. This amazing group of men and women have been friendly with FRRA’s owner for over a decade.

They chose to sell their property to him after they lost their use of this property in 2015 when an act of arson burned down their clubhouse and they were unable to rebuild. In appreciation for their service to our country and their friendship, Front Royal River Adventures committed not only to allow them to continue to use this location for their events, but also to donate at least $1 per customer back to the VFW.

Our Owner

Jeff Kelble opened his first river business in 1999, as a fishing guide and through time on the water and intense curiosity learned about the health and ecology of the river and its inhabitants.

He retired from guiding in 2005 to start Shenandoah Riverkeeper and eventually went on to run its parent organization Potomac Riverkeeper Network. After 14 years in conservation, he was ready to go back to getting people out onto the river. Jeff is working to make Front Royal River

Adventures the place people think of and visit when they have a few hours, or a few days, free and want to unwind on the river and enjoy the immense sense of freedom, adventure and simple relaxation that floating provides.

Deep down, founder/owner Jeff Kelble knows that if Front Royal River Adventures thrives it’s because this river is one of the most beautiful in the world.
